After several set backs, the long awaited debut solo album of Outkast member, Big Boi, is finally here!
Aside from his album 'Speakerboxxx', which was technically released under the Oukast name, 'Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty' is the rapper's first proper solo projecct away from his partner in crime, Andre 3000.
The album brings back a touch of the orginal southern sound to rap music which many might feel has been abandoned by some artists. Although it is predominately made up of mid-tempo laid back beats, Big Boi's lyrical flow keeps the pace up and the listener moving.
The album's lead single, 'Shutterbug', has been receiving a lot of positive feedback and rightfully so. The funky fresh feel of the song makes it that 'feel good' record that everyone would get up for in a club. 'You Ain't No DJ' stands out above the rest due to its simplistic production. The use of, what sounds like, solely percussion instruments and its repetitive chorus make this a catchy song. 'Be Still' is another stand out track. The song features the amazing vocal talents of Janelle Monaé, an artist that wouldn't genreally be associated with rap music, which makes the track even more unique and different to the next.
Other artists that also make an appearance on the album include T.I., Jamie Foxx, B.o.B and Gucci Mane; Andre 3000 also contributes to some of the production work (seeing as the label didn't want the album to include tracks featuring Andre).
Big Boi has always had a distinct style of rapping and this album most definitely showcases those talents. His contradictory style, the fast paced rapping with the not-so-fast beats, make this a quality album.
A definite one for the summer.
Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is released (today) July 5th in the UK.
