The 2009 Black Tie Comedy Awards took place last night at indigo, O2 and was a MAJOR SUCCESS!!

Despite the horrible traffic conditions everyone arrived suited and booted and ready to celebrate the achievements of some of the best comedians not only in the UK but in the world.

Special guest on the night, American comic Billy Bellamy was a no show but was not missed as my boy Kojo and the beautiful Rachael Ritfield kept the proceedings flowing for everybody in attendance.

The winners on the night-

  • Best Newcomer: KEVIN J

  • Best TV Performance: SLIM

  • Best Female Comedian: GLENDA JAXSON

  • Best Male Comedian: SLIM

  • Best Comedy Promotion: HARMONY PRODUCTIONS

The next print issue is due out 18th December.

The X Factor Effect

For those of you that watch the X Factor, I'm sure you've realised the amount of #1's and great record sales that guest performers have received after their performance on X Factor.

There is obviously a correlation between record sales and X Factor performances, which is why most music acts are jumping at the chance to promote their new album or single on the show by performing.

Music acts such as last years' X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, last years' X Factor runners up JLS, and the Black Eyed Peas have all scored #1 singles after their X Factor performances.

Britain's Got Talent's runner up Susan Boyle is also heading towards the #1 spot as debut album, 'I Dreamed A Dream', after selling nearly 150,000 copies on its first day of release. It's estimated her album will be the biggest selling album of the year!

Rihanna is performing on the X Factor next week Sunday, and as sales for her new album, 'Rated R', are pretty low, her X Factor performance of her new single 'Russian Roulette' may boost her sales.

NEWS: Jay-Z To Perform At The BRIT Awards 2010

I knew this was coming.....

Jay-Z has been signed up to perform at the BRIT Awards 2010 where he'll perform a medley of hit biggest hits and a duet with a surprise artist which said to be either Alicia Keys, Chris Martin or his wife Beyonce. Who knows it may even be Mr Hudson?

Robbie Williams will close the show as he will be receiving the Outstanding Contribution To Music award, for his work with Take That and as a solo star.

Robbie has already won more BRITs than any other artist and will be presented his 16th honour at the event which takes place at London's Earls Court Exhibition Centre on February 16th 2010.

The UK loves Jay-Z and Jay-Z loves the UK....this was bound to happen!

Must See Movie: 'Cover'

Originally released in February 2008 Cover is a social-problem film without a solution. Directed by Bill Duke, the movie raises awareness and tackles a very sensitive issue which exists through-out the world and affects many families on different levels.

Although Cover is not a big budget blockbuster it is definitely worth checking out...

What Do You Think? Keri Hilson's AMA's outfit

The beautiful Ms Keri Hilson attended the American Music Awards this week in a 'lil black number' that has had quite an affect on Facebook with people asking 'What the hell is she wearing???'.

I personally don't see anything wrong with it, but others did! What do you think???

Day 26 Leave Bad Boy Records

Day 26 have decided to part ways with Bad Boy records after Sean 'Diddy' Combs decided to jump ship and went over to Interscope Records. They are now with Atlantic Records, where Bad Boy Records were a sub-division record label.

To be completely honest we at SW predicted this a while ago. Hopefully the boys can now carve out their own fanbase away from the label of 'reality TV stars'. Also, considering what happens to most Bad Boy artists this could be the perfect move for the longevity of their music career.

Let's hope that the quintet get some new music out soon as their first two albums were really good!

Good luck fellas... Oh, and please NO MORE BITCH-ASS-NESS!!

What do you think of Keri's single, could it be her first solo UK number one?

NEWS: Jay-Z Scores His Second #1 Single

We already predicted this......

'Empire State Of Mind' has become Jay-Z's second #1 single, and his first Hot 100 #1 single. The single taken from his album 'BluePrint3', featuring Alicia Keys is #1 on the Billboard singles chart, where it's meant to be!

The song has been performed live quite a lot and has had an effect on quite a few people.....remember Lil' Mama at the VMAs? I also recently saw a person shed a few tears whilst Jay peformed the track live with singer Bridget Kelly, (who frequently steps in for Alicia on Jay's tour), at his show at Alexandra Palace.

The track has already been in the UK's Top Ten singles chart, that's even before the song was released as a single. I wonder if he'll be able to score another #1 single in the UK with this song?

SMH: Universal Removes Black Couple From Film Poster

This is not acceptable......

The film 'Couples Retreat' stars a host of actors/comedians such as Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and Faizon Love. But Universal decided to change the poster promoting the film for the UK audience and removed the two black actors, Faizon Love and Tasha Smith from the poster, and their names too!

Why?
Universal said it regretted causing any offense, and it has abandoned plans to use the revised poster in other countries. A Universal spokesman said the revised advertisment was aimed ‘to simplify’ the poster to actors who are the most recognizable in international markets.

Even if it was a marketing ploy, they should know their decision was going to cause an issue with people, especially the Black community.

How many times are there actors in films and we haven't got a damn clue as to who they are, but no 'editing' to their marketing project for international audiences are changed?? SMH

Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous: Rhi Rhi

So Rihanna and her five head partied it up at Mahiki yesterday after her Nokia show Brixton.

If you played 'guess the club' and went to Vendomme (five head & Jiggas usual spot when they come to London) then shame on you!

Have a look to see her five head in all her graces, oh and see if you can spot a certain UK artist in the mix.

One word, 'Wasted'.

But hold on, who's that in the fray, not Idris Elba, I'm talking about you guessed it, Chipmunk.

Looks like life's back to normal for the artist who 'claimed' he was thinking about suicide.

Judge for yourselves...

Concert Review: Rihanna at Brixton Academy (16/11/09)

The Bajan princess, Rihanna, performed an exclusive gig for 40 minutes in London in association with Nokia, that was streamed live all over the world.

Rihanna looked great with two outfit changes of  a bejeweled leotard and a plain black one. She started by singing 'The Wait Is Over' from her new album, 'Rated R' and also performed new single 'Russian Roulette' on a rotating chair, and 'Hard' where Young Jeezy came out for his cameo on the track. Past hits by the singer were also performed.

Jay-Z also graced the stage with Riri for 'Run This Town' and her smash hit, 'Umbrella', which definitely upped the level Rihanna's show. Rihanna has definitely been taking some vocal lessons as she sounded much better than she normally does, even though her vocals were drowned out by her live band sometimes, but her stage presence was great.

For those of you that missed the live streaming, log onto www.nokia.com/rihanna for some footage of the show.

We shall be definitely keeping an eye out on Cheryl and Jay's activities!

Concert Review: Jay-Z At Alexandra Palace

"Once you've seen one Jay-Z concert, you've seen them all" came to mind last night as I watched Jay-Z perform at an extremely packed Alexandra Palace full of 7000+ Jigga stans throwing up the ROC sign in North London.

With a full live band in gear with great imagery and flashing lights the show began.

Jay-Z performed songs off of his new album BluePrint 3 with hype man Memphis Bleek such as 'What We Talkin' About', 'D.O.A', 'Onto The Next One', as well as previous hits such as '99 Problems', 'Dirt Off Your Shoulder' and 'Show Me What You Got', where the live band gave it their all - the horns gave the track and the crowd a much needed blast of energy after many moments of pauses throughout his set.

Stand out moment of the show was when Jay performed his new single 'Empire State Of Mind' sans Alicia Keys, with the replacement of vocalist Bridget Kelly. 'Empire State Of Mind' had the crowd in a sense of awe.....kind of like the one Lil' Mama had at the MTV Awards, but there was no way anybody was getting near the stage! People were waving lighters in the air and singing along to the song which looks set to be Jay's second #1 single.

A medley of tracks were performed such as 'Swagga Like Us', 'Crazy In Love, '03 Bonnie & Clyde' which feature vocals from his wife Beyonce. I know the crowd hoped, (like I did), that Bey would appear on stage for those few seconds, but she never -she happily watched her husband perform from the VIP section with Gweneth Paltrow, with her bodyguard Julius by her side.

For the final section of the show Hova brought out Mr Husdon on his peformance of 'Young Forever'. Earlier in the day, the pair had started filming the music video for this track. The crowd were then used for a video promo for 'Young Forever' which was being filmed through that performance, which brought the show to and end as the crowd walked out to the sounds of Nirvana's classic, 'Smells Like Tean Spirit' by the live band.

NEW FLAVA (VIDEO): Gucci Mane ft Usher - 'Spotlight'

NEW FLAVA (VIDEO) - Donnie Klang - 'Prisoner Of Love'

Who remembers Donnie Klang??

He's the guy that Diddy gave a solo deal to after he wasn't chosen to be a part of the RnB group, Day 26 on the show, 'Making The Band'.

Last time we heard of Donnie Klang was when he released his video for his debut single, 'Doctor Love' and when he came to the UK on tour with Day 26 this year on Valentine's Day.

What do you think of the song?

NEW FLAVA (VIDEO) : Trey Songz - 'I Invented Sex'

Yuuuup, your boy Trey is back with his latest video 'I Invented Sex'.

Songz took to Twitter to spread the word and premiere his new video. This has got 'baby maker' written all over it, but is it a 'hit' or a 'didnt even scratch the surface' miss?

"You expect your album to leak at some point," said 50 Cent. "But this happened almost a month before we were going to let it out. And it's not just a track here and there that might hype the album. The physical 1CD/2DVD package offered at retail will also include the 'Before I Self Destruct' film and Jam Master Jay documentary.

NEWS: Jasmine Dotiwala Steps Down From Her MTV UK Position

(Jasmine Dotiwala & Asher Roth)

We wouldn't normally post about something like this but we believe this deserves a post.

Some of you may have already heard of Jasmine's departure from MTV UK but for those who haven't here's some more info.

Miss Jasmine Dotiwala, who's worked for MTV for 12 years and was also the head of MTV Base, has left the company to broaden her horizons and expand her expertise in televsion production and directing.

From interviewing the and working with the likes of Whitney Houston, Jay-Z and Mariah Carey (who's become a bonified friend), just to name a few, to travelling all around the world and shaking a leg with some of the biggest stars, to helping UK acts to break through and developing new shows for the UK Urban comedy scene, Jasmine's done a lot!

She will be making a move to terrestrial TV channels such as Channel 4, where she already has a few projects up her sleeve.

A lot of people like to give Jasmine a hard time, but at the end of the day she's done a lot with her career and has helped a lot of up-coming talent along the way - which is a good thing!

I just hope whoever takes on a similar role like Jasmine's at MTV, does as good of a job as she has.
