ALBUM REVIEW: Keri Hilson - 'No Boys Allowed'

‘No Boys Allowed’ is the sophomore album released from Miss Keri Hilson. Executively produced by Polow Da Don and Timbaland, the 12 track LP is the follow up to the singer’s debut effort ‘In a Perfect World.’

Keri speaks from past experiences with this album to inform women, as well as to let the guys know, that it’s time to man up!

In an interview with Perez Hilton, she stated that the title ‘No Boys Allowed’ basically meant “no bull**** allowed” and that’s exactly what Keri does. Keeping it real and telling it like it is, Keri says a lot of the things that women think but don’t often have the courage to say; just listen to ‘The Way You Love Me.’

Even though the album’s title doesn’t permit boys, Keri has an all male cast of features with J.Cole, KanYe West, Chris Brown, Rick Ross and Nelly each making an appearance to represent the males.

The must listen tracks of the album are ‘Beautiful Mistake,’ ‘One Night Stand,’ on which Keri and Chris Brown’s vocals beautifully compliment each other, and the album’s lead single ‘Breaking Point.’

The controversial ‘The Way You Love Me’ is another hot track. Despite the mixed response it’s received, most likely because of the rather raunchy video for it, the production and energy of the track is one that can’t be knocked.

KING: History has shown that acting is the likeliest transition for rappers. Considering your background, do you want to dabble in Hollywood?

NICKI MINAJ: Of course.

What would be your dream role?

I’d like to play someone in a Tim Burton movie, where I get dressed up and painted and crazy.

You kind of do that now.

Then I want to be able to do some action stuff, like Angelina Jolie.

Like in Salt?

Yes! And then I’d like to just play a regular girl who, you know, is facing the world. Something really sentimental and organic, that girls all around the world can identify with. You know, how Jada Pinkett Smith did in Jason’s Lyric.

Classic film. You did mention earlier how everything has been time consuming. But when that time frees up, what kind of guy do you look for to be sentimental and organic with?

Um, I look for someone who is calm, someone who is strong enough to not have to win every argument, someone who allows a woman to be her crazy self and someone with a conscience not to feel less of a man. You know, someone who is able to honor his woman but also bring out the freak in his woman.

How should your Ken bring out the freak in you, Barbie?

Just being super aggressive when the time is right.

Are we talking about Mortal Kombat–style “Come here” aggression?

Just something that makes me feel like they’re in control, when we are behind closed doors.

SOCIAL WRITERS: Best & Worse Albums 2010

2010 has been a great year for music! Below are our pics of the best and worst album of this year (in no particular order).

Rick Ross | Teflon Don

Mindful of the fact that 'Teflon Don' was his fourth studio album, listeners weren’t polluted with 18 tracks of repetitiveness adlibs of the fat man yelling ‘bawse’ from his bowels. Co-signed by Jay-Z, DJ Khaled and BFF with Diddy, Ross released the street bangers ’BMF’, ‘MC Hammer' with Gucci Mane, the third of his ‘Maybach Music’ installments, ‘Aston Martin Music’ and 'Super High' with Ne-Yo to push this album to platinum status in 2010.  Still what many people fail to forget his, that Ross was an artist in decline at that moment, with his shady past as a correctional officer being exploited by 50 Cent, 'Teflon Don' could have broke him, but it didn’t, it merely quietened those whispers away.

Janelle Monae | The ArchAndroid

Just like Janelle Monae herself, her debut album 'The ArchAndroid' is spellbinding and mesmerizing. The album takes you on a journey from beginning to end fusing funk, hip-hop, soul and Indie together to create a masterpiece. With 'Cold War' and 'Tightrope' released in 2010, the album will definitely still shine in 2011 with further single releases.

Black Milk | Album Of The Year (365)

Black Milk is one of RVB's favourite producers and his album has been on constant replay throughout the year. The instrumental interludes on the album are captivating and unique to his sound. The drums on his‘365’ track are over and beyond!

Kanye West | My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

This is Kanye's most eecentric, eye-opening, rule-breaking album. Kanye really digs deep down into himself to reveal all that he truly is to the world after the whirlwind of his much publicized meltdowns. Pure Genius! #thatsall

I’m a music guy, I know everything that he’s (had) every record that he’s made, every sample that he used. So that’s not being innovative, it’s a big difference. The singer, who brings a lucky lady on stage with him for his track 'Trading Places', was kicked in the face accidentally by a lucky fan after trying to manoeuvre her legs around the star.

Former Essex painter and decorator Matt Cardle was crowned the winner of X Factor 2010 last night! The 27-year-old is now odds-on to get the Christmas #1 with his cover of Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror'.
