NEWS: Gil Scott Heron Dies at 62

The revolutionary spoken word artist, hailed as the 'Godfather of Rap', Gil Scott Heron died in the early hours of Friday morning, aged 62.


The poet who was HIV positive, fell ill on a recent trip to Europe and died in the early hours of Friday, however the cause of his death is yet to be reported.

Heron is widely regarded as laying the foundations for the Hip Hop culture as a whole.

Gil fused poetry, politics, blues and jazz and came to prominence in the 1970's with the critically acclaimed, 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, serving as a striking critique of the role of race within media and advertising sectors.


If Scott Heron's name means nothing to you then your opinion on Hip Hop culture as is rendered void, just like that. RIP.
