NEWS: The XX Win The Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize

Last night The XX beat the bookies favourites, Dizzee Rascal and Paul Weller, to win the Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their debut album 'XX'. Other nominees included Corinne Bailey Rae, Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons.

The trio won £20,000 along with their award at London's Grosvenor House. They'll use the money to build their own recording studio.

NEWS: Dizzee Rascal Picks Up GQ Award After Missing Out On The Barclaycard Mercury AwardPrize

Dizzee Rascal went home with a GQ Man of the Year award for 'Solo Artist of the Year' last night. The East-Londoner was also up for the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize also last night for his album 'Tongue N' Cheek', but The XX won. He didn't even stay for the winner's announcement or perform!

NEWS: Dizzee Rascal And Corinne Bailey Rae Shorlisted For The Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2010

Dizzee Rascal and Corrine Bailey Rae are just two of the acts to be shortlisted for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2010. Dizzee's 'Tongue N' Cheek' and Rae's 'The Sea' are up against ten other British albums.

Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2009 Winner - Speech Debelle

South Londoner Speech Debelle has won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2009 for her album, 'Speech Therapy'. 'Speech Therapy' was the only hip hop entry this year and beat 11 other albums from the likes of La Roux, Kasabian and Florence + The Machine.

Hardly anybody knew about Speech before she was nominated for the Mercury the Prize, now she'll be one of the handful of Urban artists that press and music industry will now pay a lot of attention to!

Congrats to Speech Debelle, who's now the second Urban artist to win a Mercury Prize, alongside Dizzee Rascal who won in 2003 for his album 'Boy In Da Corner'.
