Last night the 82nd Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles. First time Oscar winner, actress and comedienne, Mo'Nique, won Best Supporting Actress for Precious, and Kathryn Bigelow won Best Director, making her the first woman to ever win that award!

NEWS: Tinie Tempah Scores A Number One Hit

South-London MC, Tinie Tempah, has scored his first UK #1 single, with the hit, 'Pass Out'. Tinie has come a long way in the music industry from MCing from the age of 14 and joining the Aftershock camp and releasing his track 'Wifey', which was a big hit on the underground scene. Snoop Dogg's UK ban lifted

Snoop Dogg has finally won the legal battle to gain entry into the UK, after the ruling was passed yesterday (4th March).

The West coast rapper was previously banned from Britain, following a violent outburst which involved members of his entourage inside London's Heathrow Airport, three years ago.

The ban was finalised when the rapper was convicted of a gun and marijuan possession charge shortly after the airport incident, which heightened after his entourage was denied entry to the British Airways V.I.P section at the airport.

Snoop's effort to get the ban overturned was short lived, when the decision was reversed in 2008. However; Snoop's lawyer's have recently appealed their case to the Asylum and immigration tribunal, who successfully ruled in the rappers favour, allowing him to re-enter the UK.

Snoop Dogg is a well respected rapper here in the UK, so I'm sure his fans (including myself) will welcome him with open arms!

Is Diddy Finally Going To Release 'Last Train To Paris'?

Diddy is currently in Paris with his lover music artist, Cassie, for Paris Fashion Week. It seems as though the Parisian air has done Diddy some good as it seems he has finalised a date for the release of his forthcoming album, 'Last Train To Paris'.

 

So I guess we should all look out for 'Last Train To Paris' on June 22nd - hopefully it's release date doesn't get pushed back again!

Masterstepz Resigns From Choice FM

After 6 successful years on Choice FM, DJ Masterstepz will be leaving the popular radio station after his final show on Friday evening.


The verteran club DJ hosted a daily 7-9pm (later extended to 10pm) show and interviewed many stars, including Jay-Z, Mary J Blige, Tinchy Styder, Rihanna, Rio Ferdinand, Bashy, David Haye, NeYo, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey, who personally presented him with a mounted triple platinum disc for her album, The Emancipation Of Mimi.

Throughout his six years at Choice FM, Masterstepz was the ambassador of youth music and an active member of Choice FM’s ‘Peace On The Streets’ campaign, which works in association with Operation Trident, to deliver anti-gun/weapon crime messages. This was done via seminars, events and workshops at schools and youth centres all over London and the South East. In 2004, Masterstepz and ‘Peace On The Streets’ were the winners of the Sony Radio Academy Awards.

In a press realease yeasterday the DJ/producer said-


“I have thoroughly enjoyed working on the Peace On The Streets campaign and winning the Sony award for that show, as well as all the live broadcast shows and events such as Junior Jam and all the concerts Choice FM sponsored and that I hosted. I will miss Choice FM and wish all the presenters and staff all the best, but it’s time for me to move forward in my career and take up some exciting opportunities I have been offered."


As personal friends to 'Stepz, we at Social Writers feel this is the correct move for him and his career and wish him all the best in his future ventures.

NEWS: Mutya Buena And Siobhan Donaghy Applies For Ownership Of Sugababes Name

Two of the original members of the Sugababes, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy have applied for ownership of the Sugababes name. This comes after the news of, third original member Keisha Buchanan's plans to sue for the ownership of the name also.

When Keisha was booted out of the Babes, it was said that Universal Records were the rightful owners of the name Sugababes. However, it has been said that the original members, Mutya and Keisha created the name of the group.
